Their Story
Carrie Kroll and Shelton McMullan met briefly in the fall of 2009 at a University of Virginia football game, but it wasn’t until a few years later when Shelton moved in with one of Carrie’s close friends in New York City that the two really got to know each other. “Over the next year and into the summer, Shelton and I became good friends,” Carrie says. When the two rented a beach house in the Hamptons with their friends, Carrie says she finally realized she had a huge crush on Shelton.

Carrie loved Shelton’s endearing qualities: “He is very considerate and thoughtful, but the best part is that he never makes a big deal over the kind things he does for me—it’s just part of who he is.” So when he popped the question a few days before Christmas—insisting on giving Carrie her present of an engagement ring and proposal as an early gift—her answer was an immediate “yes.”
