A Lifetime© celebrity makeup artist gives brides five easy tips on getting made-up on their big day.

Celebrity Makeup Artist Mo Lewitt

Hire a professional.
If you can afford it, by all means use a professional make up artist. Many resorts and chapels offer makeup services or have several artists they can recommend. This is your one special day, but makeup artists make a career of applying makeup for brides. That is a lot of brides! Makeup artists know which foundation is right for your skin color and which colors will appear best in photos. Enjoy their expertise; it’s one less thing to worry about on your big day.

Do a trial run.
Many professional artists offer special packages that include a trial makeup session. I strongly recommend a trial run for both your hair and makeup. The trial is the best time to address any concerns you may have about your look; you may even want to bring a picture in so the artist can have an idea of a look you want to achieve. Remember, it is only an idea. And always remember that makeup artists are not magicians! Just because you are with a professional does not guarantee you will enjoy working with them. If you do not feel comfortable with your artist, it is perfectly acceptable choose someone else. In this fashion you can feel totally confident you are going to love the way you look on your wedding day.

Schedule facials early.
Getting a facial a day or two before the day of your wedding is a BIG no no! Facials are very beneficial to the skin and are also a wonderful way to relax, but the main purpose of a good facial is to improve the skin’s quality. This often means pulling away any imperfection and blockages to the surface of the skin. A facial can also leave the skin red and blotchy temporarily. I recommend having a facial no sooner than two weeks before your wedding day. This allows the skin time to heal and look its best for the big day.

Use an airbrush to apply makeup.
Digital photography has become the trend in the wedding industry. Often times with digital photography the picture quality is at its highest resolution, which means even the smallest details are captured. One of the features of airbrush makeup is that it sprays tiny pixels that can be layered over a person’s face. With the proper technique an absolutely flawless finish can be achieved. Say goodbye to the cake-y heavy feelings of some traditional foundations! Most women tell me they don’t feel like they are wearing anything at all when I do airbrushing. Brides who have problems such as acne or scarred skin, often find this technique provides the best coverage while being very hygienic since no part of the airbrush touches the skin. Airbrush makeup normally doesn’t move or smear once it has been applied. A very good thing for a bride who is going to be hugging and kissing guests! The last thing you want is to leave shades of your face everywhere.

Put foundation on your lips, too!
A great lip-tip to make lip color last longer is to first apply foundation over the lips, use lip liner to define them and then apply the lip color. Wait a minute or two, then dab the extra color off with one touch of a clean tissue, and then reapply the color, touching it up with a sealer and possibly a dot of shimmer in the center of the lips. Using a long wear lipstick is a great choice too. Just be sure to apply the long wear lip color to a completely clean and dry lip. You may use a little lip liner after the color has set and then you can use a gloss to blend.

Her regular clientele include actress Jennifer Tilly and author Lucie Venture.
